University Students’ Academic Problems and the Role of Social Work Specialists in Solving and Overcoming Them: A Case Study in the Department of Social Work

This research, titled "Academic Problems of University Students and the Ability of Social Workers to Solve and Overcome Them," aims to address a set of objectives: to identify the academic problems faced by university students and to identify the roles social workers are expected to play in addressing the academic problems facing students. Therefore, its questions were: What are the academic problems facing university students? What are the roles expected to be played by the social specialist with the academic problems facing university students? The descriptive analytical approach was used, and the research community consisted of (110), including (12) male students and (97) female students. The research was conducted on the entire community, where the questionnaire was used as a tool to collect data from the community, to learn their opinions about the research variables. The distributed questionnaires amounted to (110) questionnaires, and the number of returned questionnaires was (100) and valid for statistical analysis (99) questionnaires, i.e., a percentage of approximately 95%, which is an excellent percentage for conducting the research. The spatial boundaries of the research were represented by the students of the Department of Social Service at the Faculty of Education in Misurata, and the human boundaries were represented by the entire research community of male and female students in the Department of Social Service to whom the questionnaire was applied, and the time boundaries were from the day (17-12-2022) on which the questionnaire was distributed to the day (27-12-2022) on which the statistical analysis was carried out. Interpretation of the results, the research concluded with a set of results, the most important of which are: University students suffer from some problems, the most important of which is the time spent between studying and other obligations, overcrowding in classrooms, and inappropriate library working hours. In addition, there is a major role for social specialists within the college in solving the problems facing students and in establishing programs to help students, whether recreational, cultural or scientific, to encourage them to complete their studies.
