Digital Preservation Policy

The Journal of Libyan Academy Bani Walid (JLABW) is committed to preserving the published scholarly record and ensuring long-term access to all published articles and issues through digital preservation and electronic archiving practices based on international standards and best practices in scholarly content management.

This policy aims to protect the journal’s scientific content from loss, damage, or technical failures and ensure its continued availability to researchers and readers while maintaining the integrity of published information and metadata.

1. Objectives of Digital Preservation

The journal aims to:

  • Ensure continuous access to published articles and issues.
  • Protect scholarly content from data loss and technical failures.
  • Maintain a secure and organized scholarly record.
  • Support future access and citation of published research.
  • Ensure long-term availability despite future technological changes.

2. Electronic Archiving of Content

The Journal of Libyan Academy Bani Walid (JLABW) electronically preserves and archives all journal content, including:

  • Published journal issues.
  • Research articles.
  • Supplementary files related to manuscripts.
  • Article metadata, including:
    • Title.
    • Authors and affiliations.
    • Abstract.
    • Keywords.
    • Publication and citation information.

Content is managed through the electronic journal management system Open Journal Systems (OJS) with regular backup and protection procedures.

3. Backup and Data Protection

The journal ensures the safety and continuity of published content through:

  • Regular backups of journal files, databases, and electronic content.
  • Maintaining PDF copies of all published issues and research articles.
  • Storing additional backup copies on secure cloud storage platforms such as Google Drive.
  • Maintaining additional copies on secure external storage media (External Hard Drive).
  • Regularly updating backup copies.
  • Protecting journal files and databases from loss, damage, or unauthorized access.

4. Long-Term Digital Preservation

The Journal of Libyan Academy Bani Walid (JLABW) uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) and has activated:

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

A digital preservation network provided by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), designed to ensure long-term preservation of published articles and issues and maintain the journal’s scholarly record for future access.

The journal also seeks to strengthen its preservation strategy through future participation in recognized preservation services, including:

  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe).
  • CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS).
  • Portico Digital Preservation Service.

According to available resources and approved procedures.

5. Continued Access to Published Content

The journal ensures that:

  • Published articles remain available for reading and downloading according to the open access policy.
  • Articles are not removed except through approved ethical and scholarly procedures.
  • Corrected or retracted articles remain recorded with clear status information for transparency.

6. Metadata and Digital Identifiers Preservation

The journal maintains article metadata to ensure accessibility and indexing, and supports the use of digital identifiers such as:

DOI (Digital Object Identifier)

to improve article accessibility and connection with the global scholarly record.

The journal also encourages authors to use:

ORCID iD

to accurately link researchers with their scholarly contributions.

7. Compliance with International Standards

The Journal of Libyan Academy Bani Walid (JLABW) follows digital preservation practices according to:

  • DOAJ Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
  • COPE Core Practices and Guidelines.
  • International best practices for digital preservation of open access scholarly journals.
