Challenges facing women breadwinners in society

Abstract

The study aimed to diagnose the social, economic, and psychological reality of female breadwinners, identify the most prominent difficulties they face, and examine the relationship of various variables represented by (age, educational level, income, number of family members, marital status). The researcher used the descriptive analytical method, and the research community consisted of female breadwinners (divorced and widowed) in the city of Sabha. The study sample was selected intentionally due to the researcher's familiarity with the research community, with the sample size reaching (50) individuals divided between widows and divorced women. The study reached several key findings, including: there are no statistically significant differences between the average responses of the sample members attributed to the variable of marital status (widow-divorced). Economic difficulties are considered the most prominent and severe challenge facing female breadwinners (widows and divorced). Female breadwinners suffer from high psychological pressures resulting from the dual burdens of economic support and full family care. The results showed a strong relationship between low educational levels (illiteracy and basic education) and the increased severity of economic and legal difficulties. There is a clear gap between the needs of female breadwinners and the services and support provided by official governmental institutions.
