Professional Ethics in Social Work as an Approach to Enhancing the Professional Competence of Social Workers

Abstract

This study aims to examine enhancing the professional competence of social workers through ethical commitment, as a fundamental pillar for improving the quality of social services and the effectiveness of professional interventions. The study addresses the theoretical framework of professional ethics and its role in developing the knowledge, skills, and professional behavior of social workers. It also reviews previous studies on the relationship between ethical commitment and professional competence.

The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach to examine the nature of ethical commitment and the methods of enhancing professional competence. The results indicate that ethical commitment acts as a practical tool for enhancing professional competence by improving knowledge and skills, enhancing professional behavior and performance, and strengthening trust between social workers and beneficiaries. The study also highlights a set of practical strategies to reinforce ethical commitment, including training programs and workshops, codes of conduct, evaluation and follow-up mechanisms, and the establishment of a supportive institutional environment.

The study concludes with a presentation of its main findings and offers a set of recommendations deemed necessary to ensure the protection of individuals’ freedom of movement. To achieve these objectives, the research adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology aimed at clarifying the conceptual framework of this right and the various levels of international protection afforded to it.

The study concludes that promoting ethical commitment among social workers is a key factor in developing and sustaining professional competence, emphasizing the necessity of integrating ethics into daily practice, training plans, and professional evaluation. Recommendations and future research suggestions are provided to support this process across various social work fields.
