Self-Alienation in the Poetry of Abdul Hamid Battaw: A Study of the Manifestations of Existential Crisis and Political Dispossession.

Abstract

This research explores the phenomenon of alienation in the poetic oeuvre of Abdul Hamid Battaw, framing it as an existential crisis engendered by the ordeals of imprisonment, oppression, and the shattering of national dreams. The study traces the manifestations of this phenomenon across several trajectories: the alienation of the self, which oscillates between sorrow, anxiety, rejection, and rebellion against the hypocrisy of authority; death as an alienating state that reflects the extinguishing of beauty; and the alienation of aging, embodied in the soul's fierce struggle against the encroachment of senescence. Ultimately, the study concludes that the poet did not succumb to his isolation. Instead, he transmuted his alienation into a defiant creative energy, embracing the poem as an alternative homeland and wielding it as a weapon to defy mortality and resist both political and temporal dispossession.
