Abstract

This research focuses on transferring the traditional form of the old well into contemporary interior design by reinterpreting and reusing its formal components as partitions and interior fountains within hotels, based on scientific principles of design. This is achieved through an analytical framework aimed at developing a successful design that fulfills the functional purpose for which it is intended.

The research problem arises from the gradual loss of Libya’s traditional heritage elements within contemporary hotel design. Therefore, the study seeks to incorporate this ancient heritage into contemporary interior spaces in a manner that responds to and enhances the surrounding environmental context. When reflecting on the impact of these heritage elements, it becomes evident that their origins can be traced back to ancient civilizations that preserved their secrets and historical meanings. Their distinctive characteristics have endured throughout time and continue to inspire admiration to the present day. Accordingly, the role of the interior designer emerges in developing interior designs that establish a dialogue between the past and the present. This is represented by the concept of the well form, which is transferred and deconstructed into its constituent parts for functional purposes, allowing it to be incorporated as interior dividers or partitions. This approach relies on the descriptive-analytical method to achieve the intended objectives of the research, within a theoretical framework that defines and explains the research concepts, highlights the aesthetic and functional aspects, and examines and analyzes design relationships.Based on relevant references and previous studies directly related to the research topic, the study also involves the development of three-dimensional models of the well form designed by the researcher. The general design concept is presented and analyzed in order to arrive at related designs that retain the same visual character of the original form while incorporating certain contemporary materials.
