The Contributions of Social Work to Promoting a Culture of Peace and Social Peace: A Theoretical Analytical Study

Abstract

This study aims to identify the contributions of the social work profession to promoting a culture of peace and strengthening social peace among members of society, particularly in light of the increasing conflicts, disputes, and various forms of violence experienced by contemporary societies. The study is based on the professional and humanitarian importance of social work and its values, principles, methods, and practices that contribute to developing the capacities of individuals and groups, encouraging respect for others’ opinions, promoting participation in collective work, and strengthening shared social responsibility. The study adopts a descriptive analytical approach through reviewing relevant literature and previous studies related to social work, the culture of peace, and social and cultural development. It also discusses the concept of social peace and its main foundations, including the peaceful management of diversity, the rule of law, social justice, freedom of expression, good governance, and the promotion of citizenship. The study indicates that social work can perform preventive, developmental, and therapeutic roles in addressing social problems resulting from cultural changes and conflicts. These roles can be achieved through awareness-raising programs, social group work, community organization, and activities that promote dialogue, tolerance, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence. The study concludes that social and educational institutions should support initiatives aimed at disseminating a culture of peace and strengthening the role of social workers in designing and implementing programs that promote acceptance of diversity, teamwork, social responsibility, and peaceful interaction among members of society.
