Speaking English is one of the most difficult tasks a person will encounter. There are many ways in which students can improve their speaking skills including watching English movies.
Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of English movies on improving students’ speaking skills at the Faculty of Languages and Translation at Misurata University. In this study, researchers used a mixed method approach which consisted of a quantitative data survey consisting of a questionnaire which include five-point Likert scales that explored the opinions and expectations of the students, as well as a qualitative data survey via structured interviews. The total number of participants was 15 students studying English as a second language who were selected by purposive random sampling. The findings of this study showed that English movies have a great impact and a positive influence on improving students’ speaking skills.
