Abstract

This research aims to investigate the possibility of employing Libyan songs in learning oud performance for beginners and utilizing their melodic and rhythmic elements in teaching the oud instrument. The study seeks to benefit from Libyan musical heritage in developing students’ instrumental skills and auditory training abilities. The researcher adopted the descriptive method using content analysis by examining selected musical exercises and educational songs related to oud performance and musical skills.

The research highlights the importance of Libyan songs as a cultural and musical resource that contains valuable melodic and rhythmic characteristics suitable for educational purposes. It also emphasizes the role of the oud as one of the significant traditional Arabic string instruments and discusses the challenges faced by beginners in learning its performance techniques, including controlling strings, using the plectrum, and improving musical perception. The findings indicate that melodies and songs can be effectively utilized in teaching some Arabic maqams, improving auditory training, musical reading, notation, and Arabic singing through memorization and listening. The study concludes that integrating Libyan songs into oud education can provide an innovative educational approach that supports beginners in overcoming learning difficulties and developing their musical abilities.
