AI Policy

The Journal of Libyan Academy Bani Walid (JLABW) supports the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence technologies in scientific research and academic publishing. The journal recognizes that AI tools may assist researchers in improving manuscripts, including language editing, writing assistance, data analysis, and other supportive tasks; however, their use must be transparent, responsible, and consistent with research integrity principles.

1. General Principles of AI Use

  • Authors may use AI-assisted tools during manuscript preparation, provided that their use is disclosed when it influences the content or methodology of the research.
  • Authors remain fully responsible for all aspects of their manuscripts, including accuracy, analysis, and conclusions.
  • The use of AI tools does not exempt authors from compliance with research and publication ethics.

2. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of AI tools, particularly when they are used for:

  • Generating or modifying scientific text.
  • Data analysis or interpretation.
  • Producing scientific images, figures, or illustrations.
  • Translating or substantially rewriting manuscript sections.

The disclosure should include:

  • Name of the AI tool used.
  • Purpose of use.
  • Sections or parts where the tool was applied.

3. AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author

  • AI systems or language models such as ChatGPT or similar tools cannot be listed as authors.
  • AI tools cannot assume scientific or ethical responsibility for published research.
  • Human authors remain fully responsible for the content.

4. Acceptable Uses of AI

AI tools may be used for:

  • Language editing and improving writing style.
  • Organizing ideas and improving manuscript presentation.
  • Technical assistance in programming or data analysis with proper verification.
  • Supporting information searches while verifying sources.

5. Unacceptable Uses

AI must not be used to:

  • Generate complete manuscripts presented as the author’s original work.
  • Fabricate data, results, or references.
  • Manipulate images or research data in a misleading way.
  • Conceal substantial AI involvement in manuscript preparation.
  • Violate intellectual property rights.

6. Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for:

  • Verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content.
  • Ensuring that information is not misleading or incorrect.
  • Respecting copyright and privacy requirements.
  • Providing appropriate disclosure of AI use.

7. Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors

  • Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts to public AI tools that may compromise manuscript confidentiality.
  • AI tools must not independently determine acceptance or rejection decisions.
  • AI may only be used as a supportive tool while maintaining confidentiality and editorial independence.

8. Compliance with International Standards

The Journal of Libyan Academy Bani Walid (JLABW) follows responsible AI use principles according to:

  • COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).
  • Transparency and best practices in scholarly publishing.
