The Concept of Moderation in Islamic Belief and Its Impact on Countering Extremism

Abstract

In order to counter extremism and fanaticism in thinking and conduct, this study looks at moderation in Islamic theology. It originates from the significance of Islamic moderation as a basic strategy that strikes a balance between deviation and extremism, directing social and individual conduct in accordance with Sharia values that support moderation, justice, and kindness. By examining pertinent religious texts and concentrating on their function in fostering societal cohesiveness and spreading the ideals of tolerance and moderation, the research uses a descriptive-analytical technique to investigate the ideas of moderation and extremism.

According to the study, moderation in Islam refers to striking a balance between one's beliefs and behavior while avoiding excess and carelessness. It represents the core of the Islamic message of moderation and balance and is a basic value found in the Quran and Sunnah. It also shows that extremism and fanaticism include doctrinal deviation, excess in worship and transactions, and misreading religious texts, which can result in physical and intellectual violence, jeopardize social and political security, and impede the advancement of both individuals and society.

According to the study, laws that uphold justice, mercy, human rights, and the regulations pertaining to jihad and self-defense are effective means of countering extremism. It also emphasized how crucial it is to promote communication and acceptance of those who are different. Additionally, the results showed that putting the principles of moderation into practice helps raise awareness among people and communities, encourages tolerance and moderation, lessens behavioral and intellectual abnormalities, and guarantees that religion and society are protected from fanaticism and extremism.

The study suggested expanding community and media awareness programs, promoting scholarly and cultural discourse, bolstering moderate religious education in school curricula, and attempting to create religious and social institutions that embrace moderation as a workable strategy in light of these findings. In addition to achieving social and intellectual stability, this would strengthen the principles of tolerance and moderation in Muslim countries
