Time in the Poetry of Abd al-Karim Al-Qaysi Al-Andalusi: A Descriptive Analytical Study

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the manifestations of time in the poetry of the Andalusian poet Abd al-Karim Al-Qaysi and to reveal its artistic, psychological, and intellectual implications in his poetic collection. The research adopts the descriptive-analytical approach by tracing temporal expressions and analyzing their presence within poetic texts while linking them to the historical, social, and psychological context in which the poet lived during the final period of Al-Andalus. The study examines the linguistic and terminological concept of time and explores its various forms in Al-Qaysi’s poetry, including expressions such as time, age, day, night, morning, and era, along with other temporal references related to life stages and temporal movement. The research also highlights the impact of political transformations, the fall of Al-Andalus, wars, captivity, and personal loss on shaping the poet’s perception of time, where time became associated with sorrow, nostalgia, loss, contemplation, and remembrance of a glorious past. The study concludes that time constituted a significant structural and artistic element in Al-Qaysi’s poetry, contributing to the expression of his emotional and personal experiences while reflecting the historical and social realities of the final stage of Andalusian civilization.
